A few tips to help you with balance between interest and space:
- Start with a blank page. Add embellishments one at a time. If you're unsure, leave and come back later, to look at your page with a fresh eye.
- When you come back, think about where your eye is automatically drawn to. If it is more than one or two places, you might have too much going on.
- Ground your focal point with mats or embellishments that direct attention.
- Use uneven numbers to create interest - the eye is naturally drawn to odd numbers, looking for the "extra" to complete the pairs.
- Organize your page into more obvious areas: Focal Point vs. White Space. Remember that dividing unevenly attracts more attention.
