Whew! It's been a full day since I've been home now, and I am still recovering from ALL OF THE FUN!!! :)

Every year, Heritage Makers has a conference that we call "Reunion" because really, it's a big meeting of all of our HM sistas! This year, I drove down with some of my friends! Here we are in the car! We drove down, hit Cafe Rio in Great Falls, Costco for $1.50 hand-dipped chocolate/roasted almond ice cream in Helena, and stayed in a hotel with a pool in Butte :)

When we got to the resort (The Zermatt Spa & Resort in Midway, Utah!) we were greeted by this gorgeous bear with her huge book!

Since we were there a bit early, my friends Anna, Jenn, Jenn, and I decided we really needed to get manis and pedis :) Good Times!
And the first night we arrived, we took some time to make some fascinators for our team night! It was fun being hands on and creative, and ending up glamorous!
The conference gave us the opportunity to learn about new products, new Studio upgrades, and waaaaaaay more, and even lots of motivational life skills. There may have been some emotional tears.
Here is our president, Patti Gardner at the opening session. Isn't she beautiful?
One of the exciting announcements: Improved Host Rewards! They were already awesome!!

At one point during Reunion (Friday maybe?) All of the leaders had been asked to create a canvas of WHY they are a Heritage Makers consultant in 6 words or less. Look how much room there still is to grow - only about 20 senior leaders in all of North America!

These were some of my favorites (really, they were all good) starting with president Patti Gardner's WHY: Empowerment, Confidence, Success, for Every Woman.
tee hee - this one is my executive upline, Lisa Nelson's. This one made all of us laugh :)
This canvas was created by Wendy McGee, our first (and only, so far!) Diamond Executive, the highest rank in the company. This one made me cry a little. I love working for a company where families are such a priority.
On Friday, I had some fun surprises! I won a draw at the morning General Session, and I got to pick out of a whole bunch of fun things on the prize table! I picked the hat, cuz I don't have any, and look at the cute feather/flower! Also, I earned a Grand Bucket Bag as part of an incentive, and I got to design this bag with my own pictures and quotes and art, however I wanted it :)
I LOVE my purse! It was waiting for me at the HM store! I get so many compliments on this bag, and I haven't even had it a week. It's fantastic :)
Here is the view where we were staying! So beautiful! (below that is the pool - so fun!)
Friday night, we had some entertainment by ... the Salzburg Echo? I can't remember their name. They were phenomenal and super entertaining :) Here is one of the more solemn moments, when they played Amazing Grace on alphorns. Later, there was lots of crazy dancing and yummy desserts :)

On Friday night, we had a little team recognition dinner (Lisa Nelson is on the left)
Lots of hugging and laughing! Lots of gift giving, recognition, and fantastic food :)
At one point (These pictures are a bit out of order, sorry!) we enjoyed some gelato. It was incredible. You should have some. I adore ice cream :)
On Saturday night, there was a fancy Banquet, where we received recognition for our achievements, got to enjoy an AMAZING meal, and watched the Best of Heritage rewards (warning: waterproof mascara required).

Before the event, since we were all dressed up anyway, we got silly with the camera on the beautiful resort grounds. And I didn't fall in my shoes until we got back to our room :)
At the banquet, we totally lucked out: We were sitting at the same table as Patti Gardner, and her hilarious husband, Mr. Patti Gardner :) They were super fun to sit with, very down to earth people.
Here's a picture of everybody at the event - so many pretty dresses!
Here I am receiving my award for promoting to Director this year!
Now to figure out where to hang it...
Towards the end, we enjoyed a musical number put together by some of our leaders, including Wendy McGee :) It was a fun time :)
I really liked this part. Patti Gardner invited all of the corporate staff from Home Office and their spouses to come to the stage and receive some applause for their hard work. I think they also got motive tickets and restaurant vouchers. They so deserve it!!!
The girls being silly-serious :) That is my Director plaque, and they are all going to get their very own! It was BEYOND fun hanging out with them all week, getting to know them, having heart-to-hearts with them, being silly with them, going shopping with them, learning, growing, and just BEING with them. I can't wait to do it again :)
Join us! We have a blast doing something meaningful, and we get paid for it :)

Stay tuned for new products!!

I have been having so much fun with my business! We've recently just had our annual Heritage Makers Regionals (regionals in the spring, reunion in UT in the fall, every year!) and Calgary is the place for Canadians! It was so awesome to visit with my Heritage Makers sista's and see what everybody's been working on and just catch up! And not just Canadians - we even had some ladies who flew in from Alaska, so cool!

We were super lucky to have the president of the company, Patti Gardner, come and conduct our trainings - she is incredible! Even though I've been with this company for 3 years, and most of what we talked about was not actually new to me, I still came away with so much NEW information and motivation, so many great ideas and so much excitement!

Here's a picture of almost everybody who was there:

If you've ever thought about being a Heritage Makers consultant, please let me know! I LOVE what I do - I get to CREATE and SHARE and be an INSPIRATION to others! And I work with some amazing people :)

It’s 2011 and with a brand new year comes a brand new story – YOUR story. How is it going to start?

If you want an adventure with a happily ever after ending, check out becoming a Personal Publishing Consultant with Heritage Makers! Designed to move you to action, this business has been carefully laid out to fit every individual Consultant's needs, with all of the training, tools, and motivation you could ever want available to help you succeed!

Who knew that photobook publishing, calendar creating, card making, digital scrapbooking, yearbooking, storybooking, family history making and scanning could be so much fun, so incredibly rewarding, and contribute a stable financial income?

I am addicted to being my own boss. In fact, I have ALWAYS been addicted to being my own boss. Before I had babies, before Heritage Makers and I were introduced, I was a music teacher. I used to teach for a studio. But then I left to start my own studio, because I didn't like having somebody else dictate my schedule and methods.

Once I had babies, I closed my studio, because the time commitment was too large and too rigid, and I wanted to stay home and be with my kids. Eventually, I found Heritage Makers, and now it's been 2 years since I've been a consultant. And I LOVE it!!! Here are some more details on why, but it all boils down to being able to get my projects for free, AND get a paycheque, AND I get to stay at home with my kids, AND I have a reason to meet people and talk to people.

A therapist-friend of mine once told me that Women need Women (Men also need women, by the way) but that to be happy, women need relationships with other women, and need to spend time with other women. Just to talk. Just to hang out. Just to share what is going on, what they're excited about, what they do. Before HM was a part of my life, I was starting to fall into the pit of "being-just-aMom", but being a consultant gave me a reason to get dolled up, to get out of the house, to have something that was ME again.

Anyways. Enough of that :)

How You Do Heritage Makers as a Business?
The key to success is personal publishing. That’s right! All you need to do is publish your own projects frequently, as in every month, and you will soon have a healthy business. How can that be?

When you publish your own projects you are:
... LEARNING how to use the Studio system so you can help other people do it too.
... HAVING FUN with your heritage hobby and creating MEANINGFUL projects for your family and friends – your EXCITEMENT will shine through!
... SHARING in a sincere and natural way, as you always have something new arriving in the mail to show people.
… INVITING others to join you in what you’re already doing – Club HM, publishing, fun, sharing, business

How Do I Get Started?
  • First, make sure that the Heritage Makers Business is a fit for you and your family. No sense in spending time or money on something you don’t need or don’t intend to follow up on! Call or email Julie if you have questions, or feel free to do your own research of course!
  • Next, choose your level of Club HM. Decide if you’re likely going to be a casual publisher or a digital diva publishing maniac. Club HM deposits discounted publishing points (25-35% off) in your account each month, plus it includes a free upgraded Premier account. Of course, joining Club HM is optional, but since the key to a successful business is being an example in publishing, this way you will always have enough points in your account to publish whatever you want! As your business grows, you will eventually earn your points and your premier for free :)
  • Lastly, sign up as a Consultant by visiting the Heritage Makers main page and clicking on the link that says "Join My Team" by my picture, bottom LH corner. The signup cost for your business has just been reduced from $300 to only $50! If you want to be a leader in Heritage Makers, I recommend the optional add-on supply kit for another $100, which also includes your first month of Club HM. Keep reading for the contents list.

It’s so much fun when you see people get it!

OK, what are we talking about here? A tax refund? A college diploma? Revenge?

No, we’re talking about the moment people realize that Heritage Makers could be something very wonderful and powerful in their lives.

It usually happens during a HM workshop or Studio Demo. In some cases, people “get it” even earlier as they turn the pages of a personalized storybook for the first time. And for some, the moment arrives as they sit in front of their computer and realize they have created something very beautiful, something with real meaning, something that will bring joy to a loved one.

If you’ve had a hand in helping someone “get it,” the feeling doesn’t fade quickly. That’s why becoming involved with the Heritage Makers business opportunity is so satisfying. You help people tell their stories, share their values, celebrate the everyday joy of living. Many HM consultants say they would do it for free! Fortunately, Heritage Makers offers rich financial rewards so consultants can do what they love to do, and earn the part-time or full-time money they need.

Frankly, there has never been a better time to get involved in the HM business. We are a young business—just five years old. The potential for growth is incredible. People want to go digital. They want to do something with their photos; they just need your help! We need consultants in every area so these people can “get it!”

I invite you to explore the benefits of becoming a personal publishing consultant with Heritage Makers. The holiday season is a wonderful time to start since everyone you know is thinking about his or her Christmas list. The fact is, you could bankroll your entire gift budget by spending just a few nights in the next couple of months introducing people to the fun and creative projects they can make in Studio.

Click on the image below to see our consultant starter kits. We offer payment plans that let you split your kit into 2 or 3 payments!

Did you know that with Heritage Makers, you can have 2 Gigabytes of FREE photo storage with a Basic account, or UNLIMITED photo storage if you upgrade to a Premier Account? This is something I especially love, as I can sleep safe knowing that all of our family pictures are SAFE, even if something terrible were to happen; all those memories are not going to be lost!

If you have a zillion-trillion-gabillion photos like I do, you might enjoy this tip: Organize your photos in folders that are named numerically by date, so that everything is easy to find and organized chronologically. For example: if you have a bunch of pictures from June of 2009, call the folder "2009-06 Family Pictures".

Take a peek at what I've got to get a clearer idea of what I mean:
Not only does storing your photos with Heritage Makers keep them safe in the event of a fire, flood, theft, and even TIME, but it also has them ready to put into storybooks, make canvases with, or even use in cards and gifts like calendars or flip books.

Did you know that you can upload a bunch of pictures at a time? By holding down "Ctrl" on your keyboard at the same time as pushing "a", you can highlight ALL of the pictures in a folder to upload, or by holding down "Ctrl", you can click on whichever random pictures you want to upload at once.

Because Heritage Makers uploads your full resolution images, it might take a little longer than, say, Facebook. I like to upload a bunch of pictures at once, and then go and do the dishes or something. Another perk of uploading your pictures to HM is that you can download the FULL resolution image from any computer connected to the internet later if you want/need to.

I LOVE Heritage Makers!!

This is the sort of thing that makes me proud to be a Heritage Makers Consultant! If you know of somebody who needs this service, please spread the word!

Heritage Makers will be entering into a partnership with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation (NILMDTS), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby. Heritage Makers will donate a free storybook to every family served by the NILMDTS network of professional photographers. Consultants will be available to provide free design services to those families who receive a memory book and who would like assistance.

The combination of the beautiful imagery provided by affiliated NILMDTS photographers and the lasting legacy of a Heritage Makers storybook will no doubt be an important step in the healing process and an ongoing family treasure.

Hello Blog Friends!

As my week winds down and my daughter has been fed, cleaned, and tucked safely away in bed, I'm enjoying some digi-scrapping, music, and goodies.

I have to admit: my favorite album to digiscrap to for the last several months has been John Mayer's Where the Light Is.

One of my favorite tracks:

Typically, my goodie of choice would have to be Oreos dipped in milk, or some sort of frozen goodness, either a Homemade Fruit Smoothie or Ice Cream :) One of the highlights of digi-scrapping is that there is less mess, and therefore more freedom for my hands to put things in my mouth!! Multi-tasking at its best for the prego :D

And since I'm not totally ready to show you what I'm working on, here are 2 little sneak peeks:
Stay tuned to find out what they are!!! :)

This 80 year old lady is amazing! What an example of how ANYBODY can be a Heritage Maker, regardless of how old they are :)

Tonight was the Spirit of Heritage Tour, where President Doug Cloward and his wife Judy came to speak to us in Calgary about the business opportunity of Heritage Makers. WOW was it ever fantastic!

A few personal points for me that reminds me of why I love this company: when I met Doug and Judy, and told them my name, they both went "Oh! so YOU'RE Julie! It's so great to finally meet you!" which... awesome :) It's such a cool feeling to be speaking with the president of such a successful company, and not only is he humble enough to take a few minutes to really talk to you, but also is caring enough to know WHO he is talking to, and to remember that he's heard about you before. Down to earth.

Also, I was asked to speak at the beginning for a few minutes to just share my "why I do this business", and I actually received applause! What a wonderful experience!

I put a lot of thought into what I wanted to say, and since I already have it all typed out, you can read it now here :) Enjoy!

Spirit of Heritage
2009

.....................................................................................

Hi, my name is Julie Spackman, and I am a Heritage Makers Consultant. Tonight, I've been asked to share why I am a Heritage Maker. I've been thinking a lot about what I should say, and there are a ton of reasons, but I've managed to narrow it down to my Top 3. They are:

1st: Ours is a product that I love. (And I earn them for free!)
2nd: Heritage Makers helps me be a more complete individual.
3rd: With this business, I am setting my family up for a successful future.

My 1st “why”, “A Fabulous Product” is something I could go on and on about, but it all boils down to this: Heritage Makers offers beautiful, quality products, and also a system that allows complete control on what your individual project turns out to be.

Almost right away after I discovered Heritage Makers, I signed on as a consultant. Shortly after that, I started hearing about other companies that offer something similar to us, and I panicked that I had maybe signed on with the wrong company! So I did a very “Julie” thing – I did my research. I went online and found those other companies and tried out each one that I could. What I found was really comforting – Heritage Makers really IS the #1 storybooking company! Not only are the leaders and staff wonderful to work with, but our online system amazingly advanced, and we also have such a huge array of artwork and templates, complete flexibility, and archival-quality products. Nobody else does this as well as we do, and that makes me proud to be a Heritage Makers consultant, and excited to tell everybody that I know about it. My Dad always told me to find something that I loved, and then find somebody who would pay me to do it – well, this is it!

Before I became a consultant, I did not anticipate my 2nd "why", "Being a more complete individual”. Before I became a mother, I ran a successful music studio. After our daughter arrived, my husband and I felt it was more important that I stay at home with her than it was to keep teaching, and so, sadly, I closed my studio. That turned into staying home all day, quite often in my sweats, and just being a mom. Which is great, but there is more to me! Being a Heritage Makers consultant has given me a reason to get dolled up more often and get out and be with people again J I’ve met so many wonderful people since I became a consultant that I wouldn’t have met otherwise! And not only am I fulfilling my emotional and creative needs, but I feel that I have more value to other people. That might sound strange, but what I mean is that now, my friends call me up not just for fun, but also for creative and technical advice on their projects, and then turn around and tell THEIR friends how great I am. Who wouldn’t love that? The best part is, I get to teach, I get to be creative, and I get to earn an income, but the demands on my time are not nearly as high as they were when I was a music instructor, and the rewards are so much greater.

Studies have shown that having a Long-Time perspective is the single most important factor in determining your success in life and at work, and my 3rd "why", "Setting my family up for a successful future", is important because, before anything else, I am a wife and a mother. As a music instructor, although I enjoyed teaching others about my love of music, there was a ceiling on my occupation. There were only so many hours in a week. I could only teach as many clients as I could find in my geographic region. And while I believe that music is important, and my teaching others about it had value, it mostly just had value for them, and only financial value for me. I never felt that my family benefitted in any other way from my running a music studio. In 40 years, where would I be? Thousands of hours missed out on my family, and what to show for it?

Not only am I confident that I am setting myself up for future financial success with the generous compensation plan that Heritage Makers offers, but I also feel that with Heritage Makers, I am investing in our future family success. As a consultant, not only do I have more time for my family, but the work that I'm doing is all about creating & preserving our heritage. Just like the Heritage Makers mission statement says: I am building lasting legacies of family heritage by creating, celebrating, and perpetuating family heroes, traditions, values, memories, and commitments. Through the power of story, I can strengthen the home and family and boost children’s confidence. In a world where the importance of values is decreasing, I encourage family unity by providing heritage-enriching products. Heritage is the strength of family and the source of individual worth, which in turn are the foundation of society and the basis for hope for a better world."

I know that I am making a positive difference by being a Heritage Makers Consultant, and if I can do it, so can you!

**If you have questions about the business side of Heritage Makers, feel free to email me at julie@printedjewels.com or call me at (403) 667-5336 for more information. Also, business information available Here

I love this story :)

Read this Story!
For those of you who know me, you'll know that I start projects with the greatest of intentions, but that I haven't always been great at finishing them. This was how the original wedding album began - the beginning of my scrapbooking hobby! I invested hundreds of $ into our wedding album, only to have it sit on our shelf for the next 4 years, in all its unfinished glory. Incomplete journalling, pages that were still waiting for pictures to get developed, and then eventually it got dropped and the binding broke. My one and only copy of a very special event.

So when I discovered Heritage Makers, I told my husband that I was going to re-do our wedding album. And FINISH it. I don't think he really believed me. But I did it! I scanned some of the original 12x12 pages that were special to us, and put them into a Legacy 11x13 book (I really wanted the leather!) and I finished all of the journalling, re-did a few pages that used to make me cringe, and completed all of those unfinished pages! And it only took about a week! And now, with our Heirloom Assurance, I'll never have to worry about this being my one-and-only copy, and our children can feel free to read the story of their parents' love as much as they want!

This is the story of a new Heritage Maker; Her name is Linda Kutchall and she lives in a small town in Saskatchewan. She is also an owner of a scrapbook store and a mother of three daughters. She admits to being a scrapbook addict from the time her first child was born some 10 years ago. As much as Linda loves scrapbooking, she calls “storybooking” the next generation of scrapbooking, with the onslaught of digital cameras, photo enhancements and a generation that is more likely to preserve history like never before!

Linda chose Heritage Makers because the unbelievable creative component we offer is what she was seeking. Linda got busy creating her own family storybooks, and the more she used the system the more she loved it. Now Linda shares the magic of “storybooking” with her large client base.

Here are some reasons why Linda is now a storybooking addict (in her own words):

1. No mess! I could, within minutes, cover an entire table with papers, embellishments, glue, pens, pictures, and still not have everything I need to complete the perfect page. I can now sit on my couch with my laptop, while my kids watch a movie, and create all I want.

2. No need to go back through the years of scrapbook pages to fill in the story gaps I left because I didn’t want to handwrite the story and the computer wasn’t handy. Journaling is just as fun as the rest of it now!

3. No more trips to the photo store to resize, recolor, or reprint pictures. I can do it all with the mouse. What took 3-5 pages of scrapbooking can now fit into 1 or 2 page layouts!

4. All-inclusive pricing. The cost of Premier account includes all the embellishments, alphabets, paper, etc. that I will ever need. No need to stock up on flowers, ribbon and the like. A lot less waste. And it’s cheaper in the long run!

5. I don’t get bored. I could get bored quite quickly with a computer program that doesn’t change, or that is one dimensional that you can’t learn anything new from. I love the tutorials in Heritage Makers and the opportunities to learn new techniques and features. It keeps me hooked!

6. I can fill gaps in my traditional scrapbook with digital pictures from Heritage Makers. I can drag and drop into a template those events that perhaps didn’t warrant a little extra time to scrap. I can do a page in 8 minutes with this and it looks fab!

7. It warms my heart to make a book for my mother of her grand-daughters. It warms my heart to know that my children will have a sense of history in a storybook that will last a lifetime.

Linda, you had me at #1: No mess!

I've been working at the Stampede Booth! It has been such a fun experience, sharing what I love with people! And I've had a really positive response, it's been great!

Yesterday during my shift, I had the best experience of all: a surprise visit by co-founder Sharon Murdoch!

What a lovely woman. Before she even knew my name, she gave me a genuine hug, and thanked me for being there. Then she asked my name, and when I told her, she knew who I was! She said that she had heard wonderful things about me, and knew lots about me! I was so impressed that a woman as busy as she probably is would take the time to learn about her consultants!

Meeting Sharon was just another thing to add to the list of why I love my job: the fantastic people!
